Mijn
naam is Annemarie Kwikkel-Smit en ik ben geboren en getogen in
Nederland. Ik ben begonnen met het maken van porceleinen popjes in mei
2003, nadat ik de prachtige popjes zag van Dana
Burton.
Nadat ik een paar popjes had gemaakt, was ik verslaafd! Ik vond het zo
leuk om deze miniatuur dames te maken, ze zijn maar ongeveer 14 cm.
hoog.
Ik begon ook steeds meer te kijken naar de mode uit vervlogen jaren,
vooral de Victoriaanse en Edwariaanse mode spreekt mij erg aan. Dit is
tussen 1850 en 1910.
Na twee jaar besloot ik mijn werk voor te leggen aan het International
Guild of Miniature Artisans (IGMA) om te proberen de Artisan
Status te verdienen. Ik was zeer gelukkig toen IGMA mij deze status
verleende in oktober 2005.
Ik vind het verder heerlijk om miniatuur olieverf schilderijen in
schaal 1:12 te maken. Het liefst de oude Hollandse meesters uit de 17e
eeuw.
Ook ben ik sinds kort begonnen met het zelf boetseren van popjes, ook
schaal 1:12. Ik gebruik hiervoor polymeer klei (Prosculpt) een soort
fimo. Ik heb inmiddels een aantal popjes gemaakt. Ook heb ik een model
gemaakt waar een mal van is gemaakt om porcelein in te gieten. Zo heb
ik
mijn eerste eigen mal!

My name is
Annemarie Kwikkel-Smit and I live in the Netherlands. I started making
miniature porcelain dolls in May
2003, after seeing the lovely dolls on the Internet by Dana
Burton .
After making a
few, I was hooked! I had so much fun in creating these
small ladies, only 5,5 inches tall!
I also started to
study the history of fashion and soon I had my
preferences for the Victorian and Edwardian era.
After two years I
decided to submit my work to the International
Guild of Miniature Artisans (IGMA) and try and
become an IGMA Artisan. I was very happy that IGMA awarded me the
Artisan Status in October 2005!
I also love to
paint miniature oil paintings, after old Dutch masters.
The 16th century has my preference; the use of color
and light in the painting really intrigue me. I paint
them in 12th scale, as true as possible.
The reason I
started sculpting is that I had the wish of creating
dolls and figures with my own hands.
They are always
12th scale and I have made several polymer clay
sculpts, as well as one original mold from a head and torso for a
porcelain doll.
